Land Acknowledgment

Children’s Legal Services of San Diego recognizes and respects the indigenous peoples who inhabited the land our offices currently reside on. We extend our gratitude to the Kumeyaay people who had villages as nearby as Nipawai, located just miles away in present-day Mission Valley, and have lived here for more than 2000 years. We acknowledge that settler colonization resulted in land seizure, disease, subjugation, slavery, relocation, broken promises, genocide, and multigenerational trauma. This acknowledgment demonstrates our responsibility and commitment to truth, healing, and reconciliation.

By committing ourselves to Indigenous justice, we honor all Indigenous people who work tirelessly towards justice and healing. As our organization serves children and families across San Diego County, we recognize the following tribal reservations, their histories, and their continued legacies as the original stewards of this land: Barona, Campo, Capitan Grande, Cuyapaipe, Inaja, Jamul, La Posta, Manzanita, Mesa Grande, San Pasqual, Santa Ysabel, Sycuan, Viejas.
